Guest Writer ~ Princess*Picasso

“It was about five years ago that I first stumbled upon eBay boutique. My husband was deployed with the Army, we had an 18-month-old daughter and a son on the way, and I’d been looking for a hobby to occupy my time. While surfing the web one day, I came across some adorable boutique bracelets on eBay and thought, "I could make those!" So I found some jewelry-making tutorials, picked up the proper supplies, and began creating. A few months later I started selling my jewelry on eBay. Around that time I also discovered there was an entire community of buyers and sellers there! I joined one of the large community groups, and just loved getting to know people who shared so many common interests with me.

While I love making jewelry, it was the amazing boutique clothes that kept beckoning me. Sadly, I didn’t know how to sew a stitch. My one experience sewing was 7th grade home-ec, where merely threading the machine seemed impossible, and one of my friends sewed through her thumb during class. Intimidating to say the least. But, with encouragement from some of the wonderful friends I’ve made here, I got a sewing machine. For several months I practiced and studied the processes of sewing, soaking in everything I could. Once I was confident in my skills, I listed and sold my first outfit. That was in January '07, and I’ve been hooked since! I still do jewelry as well, but mostly on a custom basis, or to match my own outfits.

I’ve had so much fun over these past few years. The friendships I’ve made and the support of my LimeVine ladies has made this an incredibly rich and enjoyable experience. I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating something that’s cute and fun and youthful—I love childhood!! And then there are my wonderful customers…when I hear how much a customer or her little one is enjoying my creation, or receive a picture…that is really the icing on the cake!”
